We live in a world where the morally and spiritually wrong have become the norms of the society. Yes, we are in the dispensation of grace, however we do not abuse grace, but we transform and renew our minds daily to become like Christ so that we do not become slaves to sin(1 Corinthians 6:12).
Since I read Genesis 19, the question I keep asking myself is what could Lot have done better. He let his environment have a strong influence on his household, he lived in a perversed environment so much that his household became perversed. He lost his wife due to her act of disobedience and his children to incest.
There are times when we have no control over our environment, we have no choice but to live in it, but we can control how we allow our environment control us. We must intentionally pay attention to where we go, what we hear, what we see, kind of friends, what we do. The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom, it says in Proverbs 4:23-25, NLT;
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.”
We must be intentional about what we feed our spirit, the more we feed our mind with perverse things, the more perverse we become. We must feed on the Word of God to renew our mind daily, associate with children of God that we act so much like Christ. You can’t expect to have friends who speak perverse language and expect not to speak it. In the secular world, our association determines who we are, same applies as members of Christ’s kingdom. Let’s choose our association wisely.
We can instill Godly values in our children so much that when they find themselves in uncontrollable perverse environment like the school, excursions or wherever, they already know what is right and can stand for what is right.
“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”
Proverbs 16:25 NLT.
We must see beyond now, think about the consequences of our actions for now and the future. We must always remember that there is an eternity we look forward to, heaven is a place we should not miss.
We must do away with all forms of perversion such as homosexuality, perverse language, corruption. The Bible says it all;
“Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NLT.
We must realize that we have been bought at a high price (1 Corinthians 6:20) by Christ through the shedding of His blood for the redemption of our sins, a very rare privilege not to be taken for granted. We must carry ourselves with the mindfulness that we are the apple of God’s eyes, created in God’s image, therefore, we must take God’s stand.
The birthed always looks like the ones who birthed him. You are God’s child, take a stand for God. Let’s make the world a better place.We can be the positive influence our environment needs.
